Apiculture in the Canary Islands is a traditional activity from where we obtain unique and unbeatable honeys. Some of them are produced with endemic flowers from Tenerife, in close proximity to unpolluted protected areas. There are more than 10 kinds of honeys harvested in Tenerife. Known from Concepción del Oro, in Zacatecas state Mexico, at about 1800 m elevation, this Agave grows into a stately specimen, with robust sygmoid leaves, with a blue-grey-green polychrome banding similar to Agave americana. It takes frost and hard conditions.
Beautiful cactus from the Andes with hanging stems. They are "hairy", coated with a grey fur. Flowers are a show indeed! Cola de Mono means Monkey Tail and this is because each stem looks like the hanging tail of a hidden monkey! It is a high-elevation species and it is cool-growing and frost-tolerant.

This is one of the oldest cultivars of the "Leopard Plant", and it is the one that gives the name because of its showy spots. It is still one of the most used and loved forms. This cultivar of Farfugium japonicum does not grow very large, and the glossy blotched leaves are a show indeed.

Large sized Farfugium with different leaves. "Escargot" means snail in French, and in this cultivar of Farfugium leaf margins are a bit "squared" and leaf lobes do overlap, forming a spiral reminiscent of a snail. The whole leaf looks like a snail... with some good fantasy. Some experts believe that 'Escargot' is a hybrid between Farfugium 'Giganteum' and...
Aloe lavranosii is a native of Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula. It is one of the few species of Aloe with "hairy" flowers. Plants grow usually solitary with blueish leaves.
This classic clone of Farfugium is still unsurpassed in beauty. Leaves show many different hues of white. This variegated 'Argenteum' adds light to a shady spot in the garden. It has been around for more than a century but it is still only grown by specialized nurseries because it is slower than other cultivars.
Mid sized crinum native to semi-aquatic environments including swamps. It can be grown in dry soil too. It flowers profusely with umbels of white flowers.
Taro is the edible corm of a spectacular plant that can be grown in damp soil or in the water. It has huge exotic foliage. This variety named Ñame Blanco is traditionally grown in the Canary Islands.
This plumeria endemic to karstic areas in Northern Cuba has narrow leaves with very revolute margins.
This is one more wild species of mango with a wild flavour. It has wider leaves than a typical mango tree and the fruits are egg-shaped, green-yellow outside and orange inside. They are juicy and sweet with the typical resinous scent that the whole tree produces. Mangifera odorata is not a fruit for freaks as it is widely marketed and appreciated in the...
