Not all palms are tropical trees. Some species come from subtropical areas and are able to take some cold weather. All these species are pinnate (feather-leaved) palms, they can grow wherever frost is uncommon and can be tried outdoors in Mediterranean climates. Here we propose some species like: Chamaedorea klotschiana, Allagoptera caudescens,...
The African Baobab is a beautiful symbolic tree, able to attain a gigantic size. It is easy to cultivate in pots, as long as it is kept above 8 C and kept dry in winter, when leafless. Leaves are dark green, glossy and palmate. Flowers are an absolute beauty. The fruit is edible.
Another interesting Delonix from Madagascar. It is very adaptable and can attain anything from 3 to 12 m in height. Flowers lack petals but they are very beautiful, with lots of golden stamens shown when the tree is still leafless. We grew some plants in 35 cm pots and they started blooming beautifully after about 5 years, when they were just 1.5 m tall.
This Dwarf Coral Tree is native to Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico. It is a shrub with white bark, erect growth and truly showy scarlet flowers. It is suited to warm temperatate to subtropical climates. Its small size and frost resistance ( to about -6 C !) make it suitable for Northern latitudes.
This is the smallest and most compact Gasteria, a true miniature. It is easy to grow but surely slow. We offer one well-rooted head
Nymphaea tropical Miami Rose. Intense pink flower, thin and lanceolate petals. Serrated leaves and marbled color.
1-2 year old seedling. Evergreen perennial from South Africa to 1.2 m, with long, arching angled leaves and dense rounded spikes of tubular bright red flowers fading to yellow. It flowers in mid winter and is therefore well adapted to the mild Mediterranean climate.
