Aechmea pectinata is a different bromeliad with wide, stiff, channeled leaves, native to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro to Santa Catarina). It has light green leaves, speckled with different colours ranging from white to red or brown, varying through the different seasons.

An incredibly bright pink flush occurs when it gets close to blooming and lasts for a few months.

This is the nice "minor" form of Aechmea pectinata which is smaller, compact and better looking for gardening than the untidier larger form.
