Colourful classic hybrid, germinated in 1976 in Southern California by Jack Catlin, who crossed Aeonium canariense with Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'. The result is a supreme ornamental plant. It is a densely branched shrublet, much lower than A. arboreum. Each rosette has different shades of maroon, with soft, velvety leaves, inherited from A. canariensis.
