Artocarpus heterophyllus 'Amber' - Jackfruit

Seedling-The Jackfruit is the largest of all fruits after the pumpkins. It is a sweet and tasty relative of the Breadfruit, it is an everloved fruit widespread in SE Asia.

Artocarpus heterophyllus is tolerant of short light frosts and can be tried outdoors in the warmer coastal Mediterranean, with some protection.

It becomes a huge tree but it can be kept small. It can fruit early in life, after 2-4 years, at about 2 m in height.

The Amber variety fetches the highest price in Sydney markets because of its wonderful flavour.
Ambers have little latex and fruit quickly when planted from seed.
The flesh colour is deep apricot rather than orange or yellow.
