Ficus microcarpa, also known as Ficus retusa nitida, is a tree from harsh areas of India which is found planted as a street tree throughout the warmer Mediterranean. It eventually becomes a large tree with little or no aerial roots, but it can be kept low and pruned as a shrub or hedge. It is also suitable for bonsai colture. This species grows well in cool weather too and stablished trees take a few degrees of short frosts.
