Outstanding heliconia with ornamental foliage and dense, upright habit. Most heliconias are from tropical America and only a handful of them is from the Pacific islands. Heliconia indica is one of them and 'Striata' is a supreme striped clone, selected in ancient times somewhere in Melanesia. Heliconia indica 'Striata' seldom flowers and when it does, bracts are greenish, not as attractive as leaves. It is a heat lover! Yes it takes temperatures down to 10 C, but it enjoys hot weather with nights above 22 C. We usually ship a two eyed rhizome for all our heliconias, but rhizomes of this species are quite different and do not like being bothered, than in other heliconias so this species will be often be shipped rooted in a pot, of abouy 16 cm, with some leaves.
