Magnificent magnispina! This bromeliad slowly builds sculptural clumps of huge rosettes of an unreal grey-purple colour. The leaves are very exotic and still very formal in shape. It is found in the Chiapada Diamantina of Bahia, Brazile. There it grows in harsh open rocky areas, called "campos rupestres". This gorgeous beauty is still unknown to many bromeliad collectors, and it looks like a larger and more slender relative of Hohenbergia leopoldo-horstii. Hohenbergia magnispina is quite slow to grow and new rosettes will take 2 to 4 years to bloom. It needs high light... but please do not let it bake and dry on the hottest rocks, just because you have seen it in the habitat pictures of Morro do Chapéu!
