This deciduous species is grown as an ornamental in different areas of Mexico. Nevertheless it is scarce in the wild, as it is found in small and scattered populations in dry areas of C-SE Mexico. It is a tough plant with glaucous strap shaped leaves and it flowers abundantly with the beautiful white scented flowers so typical of the genus Hymenocallis.
