Yellow Mamey is a Central American fruit tree with glossy ornamental leaves.
The fruit has a brown rough skin and despite the external appearance it is a sought after delicacy with an orange flesh reminiscent of an apricot. Mammea americana fruits ripen in autumn.
It is evergreen and grows to perfection in wet and hot frostless environment. Nevertheless, it can stand hot dry air and short droughts. Also it will resist to temperatures close to freezing for short times.
We ship a grafted plant, about 80 cm tall. This tree is very slow and complicated to graft ! The scion was collected from a mature self-fertile hermaphrodite plant so the tre can bear fruits quite soon. It will take a two or more years anyway, because it is a slow species. We ship it worldwide, with all phytosanitary requirements.
