Grafted Tree. La Molina 4 is an excellent variety selected in Peru, with large, fleshy fruits. Lucumo, or Egg-Fruit, is a tree from the cool Andean valleys, at 1000-2400 m. It fruits outdoors with no protections in the southern, coastal Mediterranean.

Lucumo is the fruit of Pouteria lucuma a type of sapote from the cool Andean valleys, at elevations of 1.000-2.400 m.
It is also called egg-fruit because of the yolk-yellow flesh. Peru is the leading grower in the world, with 2.000 hectares of lucumo, especially in the Lima valley.
Pouteria lucuma is very tolerant of a wide range of conditions. It is unharmed by light frosts and grows at cool temperatures. It is also able survive to hot droughts and wind.
Lucumo grows outdoors in the coastal Mediterranean. It fruits outdoors with no protections in S and E Spain, Southern Italy and Sicily, Southern Portugal, Greece.
La Molina 4 is a grafted variety of Pouteria lucuma, recently selected in Peru . La Molina 4 is a truly excellent cultivar, with very large fleshy fruits, of uniform yellow color. It is tolerant to oidium and botrytis. Expected yeld is 15 to 16 tons per hectare.
