Succulent shrublet of just 10-40 cm, from the Cape of South Africa. Curved green stems, made of "pairs of leaves" branch geometrically, creating an intriguing pattern. Pink multipetaled flowers occur in Spring to Summer. Smicrostigma is hardy to short frosts and it is recommended as a garden subject for dry mediterranean gardens, because of its overall elegance and compact habit. "Smicrostigma" is a monotypic genus, with only one species: Smicrostigma viride. It is unusual in the Aizoaceae family because its flowers stay always open and do not close at night.
