Beautiful palm from "colder" areas in Brazil, with flat fan leaves and long spiny leaf sheaths, Trithrinax brasiliensis is a solitary palm with stiff, green fan leaves. Leaf sheaths bear thick, long spines forming an attractive intricate pattern of old leaf bases. Attractive, creamy yellow inflorescences appear in late spring, and also the pale yellow fruits, held in abundant bunches are very ornamental. It prefers full sun, and grows in a wide range of conditions. It is tolerant to short, moderate frosts, -4 to -7 and thrives outdoors in most part of the Mediterranean coasts.
