Le genre Heliconia est un genre d'environ 200 espèces connues pour ses inflorescences typiquement tropicales et de grandes feuilles vertes exotiques. Les floraisons sont incroyablement colorées et souvent pollinisées par les colibris.
Les Gingembres sont une famille, Zingiberaceae, avec environ 1.300 espèces et certains sont bien connus des plantes ornementales, des épices et des médicaments.
Les Heliconias et gingembres sont des plantes herbacées tropicales avec tige souterraine. De nombreuses espèces sont sensibles au gel, mais certaines proviennent des habitats froids et vont bien se porter dans un climat méditerranéen. Quelques-uns tolèrent aussi la neige et le gel. Nous expédions des rhizomes cultivés en plein champ en bonne santé avec au moins deux points de croissance active.
