We selected this hybrid here in Tenerife. It is a particularly nice and hardy cross between Heliconia subulata and H. pendula, which are two cool-hardy species, good for the subtropics.
This is a robust old natural hybrid of Heliconia bihai and Heliconia caribaea. It has red and yellow blooms and grows to a height of 2-4 m. Easy growing, easy blooming. Inflorescences are truly beautiful, glossy, and long-lasting both on the plant and as a cut flower.
Healthy in general, as most gingers, this Kaempferia is used as a strengthener or aphrodisiac since immemorial times. It is also a nice ornamental: flowers are not too exciting (parvi-flora means small flowered) but leaves are glossy and wavy.
Arrowroot is a root crop with edible starchy rhizomes, and also a beautiful plant. It grows in full sun with ornamental wide green leaves, which are reminiscent of the more colourful Calathea species produced for the house plant market.
This Albino clone of Musa Nam Wah is obtained once in a long while when a plant of variegated Nam Wah gives a pup lacking clorophyll. This shoot will grow new leaves of an incredibly white colour, sometimes with a soft pink hue.
Musa acuminata is one of the wild ancestors of actual edible bananas. Fruits are sweet but small, with large seeds inside. Leaves are upright, with a pink tone and very ornamental.
Blood banana is a supreme ornamental for warmer climates or conservatories. The dark green leaves are splashed with purple-burgundy blotches. A classic of all-times for tropical gardening.
This is a wild banana with seed, the hardiest ancestor of most edible bananas. It is hardier to cold, wind and drought than most bananas. Fruits are edible but they are starchy and full of seeds. Fibres are strong and useful.
Wild banana tree native to the limestone hills close to Bau, in Sarawak with slender pseudostems and ornamental lush foliage. Mature clumps are particularly attractive, because they keep many slender "trees" that will happily live together without too much overcrowding.
Ornamental banana of moderate size, with very showy pink-orange inflorescences. The whole plant is usually only 2-3 m tall, the foliage is very ornamental and the bright bracts are often held at eye level.
Is this the best ornamental colourful foliage on earth? This is a rather dwarf banana tree with fully speckled leaves with all the hues of orange and red, intermingled with lime-green speckles.
h= 40-60 cm - Cont. 12 cm. The famous "Traveller's tree" of Madagascar is an icon of tropical gardening of all times. It is a palm-like tree holding a crown of majestic, large banana-leaves, arranged as a giant fan. Flowers are strelitzia-like.
The "White Bird of Paradise"is the largest of all strelitzias, with bold, enormous dark leaves arranged as a fan. A classic in Subtropical and Mediterranean gardening as it tolerates long winters and light frosts.
Small, h= 20-35 cm. An all-times star among exotic flowers. It is the popular bird-of-paradise. This low herbaceous shrub is able to take light frosts and makes an excellent potted plant. Cut flowers are long lasting.
This strelizia is adapted to harsh conditions and lacks normal leaves. Leaf stalks taper to a tip with no blade, so the leaves look like fleshy spikes. The flower is much like the popular bird of paradise.
Field grown adult specimen, about 8 years old from seeds of the yellow-flowered selection of the famous "bird of paradise" flower
Two-three year old seedling. New, yellow-flowered selection of the famous "bird of paradise" flower, developed in South Africa, released in the early 90's but still uncommon in the trade.
Large plant, 50-100 cm tall, with 2 or 3 heads. Height is unpredictable because stock changes but we will select the best plant for you. Sometimes we ship it with flowers or flowerbuds.
Chocolate Beehive Ginger produces compact, glossy "beehive" inflorescences, with a beautiful chocolate-reddish colour. It starts blooming early in the year and it is long-lasting, with fragrant flowers.
