Small shrub, reaching about 0,4-1,50 m in height. Bright green succulent leaves held upright and are crowded toward tips. Orange yellow clusters of flowers appear in late autumn. It is probably the largest species in the group of senecios with cylindrical leaves. It grows on rocky hills in Transvaal and Swaziland in summer rain areas. It was wrongly called "Senecio Himalaya" in the trade. It is hardy to about -4  C.

Senecio is one of the largest genera of flowering plants, with about 1250 species, belonging to the daisy family (Asteraceae). It evolved into many different forms, including leaf, stem and tuber succulents, annuals, perennials, aquatics, climbers, shrubs and small trees. Some of the succulent species, adapted to desert conditions are sought after by collectors.
