Considered a sacred tree in India, Syzygium cumini is medium-sized evergreen fruit tree with small white flowers in panicles.
It is very rustic, adapting to any altitude and being a member of the lilly pilly family, it is also suitable for making hedges and windbreaks.
Its fruit is small (2-3cm), with a very shiny dark purple skin and a bittersweet taste similar to that of red fruits. It can be eaten fresh, although it is also used in the production of wines, juices and jams.
