Large grey-leaved cycad native to high elevation pine-oak forests in Oaxaca, Mexico. The trunk can reach 6 m (18 ft.). Leaves are stiff, long and flat, densely woolly during development. Dioon holmgreenii is an easy grower, with moderate hardiness to frost, suitable to Mediterranean climates. It needs direct sun and drainage. It is very drough tolerant.
