Shrub to small tree, 2-6 m tall, with elegant, glossy leaves producing edible fruits. RIpe fruits are rounded, often with a tip, acid but very flavourful. Some people truly love them, while some other run away, because they are acid, almost like a lemon unless they are very ripe. Once it becomes adult, it is an abundant and regular bearer, giving fuits in July to September. Fruits are used in SE cuisine, and just like lemons, they can become the basis of some incredible drinks and desserts. This yellow acid mangosteen,

Garcinia xanthochymus, is a relative of the famous purple mangosteen, Garcinia mangostana, and can be used as a rootstock for grafting it. G. xanthochymus is much easier to grow than G. mangostana, because it tolerates cooler and hotter temperatures.

Garcinia xanthochymus is native to mid elevations in SE Asia, usually above 500 m asl to about 1.400 and it thrives and fruits outdoors regularly in the warmest Mediterranean coasts is slow growing in its first years.
