It was formerly classified Haworthia cooperi var leightonii and it is the easternmost population of the cooperi group. Haworthia leightonii is restricted to granitic slabs in the coast near Kayser´s Beach, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is one of the few Haworthia species that naturally grow in full sun.
