Esta es una sección nueva y creciente de especies de la familia Crassulaceae. Hay alrededor de 1.400 especies en 33 géneros y su distribución es mundial, pero sobre todo se crecen en el hemisferio norte y el sur de África, especialmente en hábitats secos.
