Aechmea nudicaulis is found throughout Tropical America, with lots of different local forms. This is a thick leaved, upright Northern form of this species, with tapering leaftips, often curly. Leaves turn purple-reddish in the cooler or drier months. It is robust and grows a bit larger than other nudicaulis forms. This clone originates in the area of Viñales, in Northern Cuba, probably coinciding with the northernmost limit of its distribution... About 6700 km away from those other Aechmea nudicaulis growing South of Rio de Janeiro!!
