It is native to arid calcareous areas in Puebla and Oaxaca, in Mexico, at 1650 to 1950 m elevation. It is a slow growing Agave, eventually attaining 50-80 cm in diameter. It stays small forever if kept in a small container. It is hardy to about -6 C (21 F).
