This shrub is similar in shape to the more popular Eugenia uniflora, with smaller darker leaves. Eugenia pitanga is called pitanguinha do cerrado, and it is native to the Cerrado savannahs in South America and can take drought, wind and some cold, reaching a height of up to 2 or 3 meters.
Fruits are red, about 2 cm in diameter, sweet and tasty, sweeter than the usual Eugenia uniflora, with some taste of strawberries.
