Each bulb bears two leaves. In February it produces showy spikes of sessile pink and purple flowers. It slowly clumps and will fill the pot in 3 or 5 years. Lachenalia splendida is native to sandy plains in the northwest Cape of South Africa and this clone was collected by Vanrhynsdorp.
Lachenalias are winter growing bulbs. Keep completely dry and shaded during the warmer months. Most species love fast-draining sandy soil and can be grown in 12-14 cm pots.
