Small xerophytic bulb from South Africa, holding a tuft of deciduous leaves. The clumping bulbs grow partially exposed above the ground and during the dry summer season they survive heat and sun because they are coated in their old and dry papery sheaths.
The name Ornithogalum lithopsoides refers to their resemblance to resting Lithops when they are leafless.
Despite its winter-rainfall origin, this Ornithogalum is easy in cultivation and can do well with irregular water at any time of the year. It can grow and loose leaves more than once a year.
