Raphionacme lanceolata is a caudex-forming asclepiad with scrambling velvety stems. It builds a sub-spherical caudex, up to 35 cm in diameter. The velvety stems grow up to 50 cm long and spread horizontally. Leaves are also more or less densely velvety on both surfaces, sometimes dotted with reddish glands. Flowers are green to mauve, brownish or purplish-green. It is found in sandy, gravelly or rocky soils in grassy clearings in open woodland, in Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly Tanzania, at altitudes of 500 - 1500 m.
