Vanilla planifolia - True Vanilla Orchid

This is the real vanilla for your kitchen. It is a climbing orchid that can eventually bloom and set fruits holding the fabulous aroma. The plant is quite ornamental with opposite, regular leaves.

Grow a plant of vanila at home

Vanilla planifolia grows well in bright light to dappled sunshine. It does not really need to stay in the soil because it naturally climbs on trees with its embracing roots. It should be planted climbing on a fibrous or spongy support, like the ones typically used for climbing indoor plants like philodendron or monstera.

It can be grown indoors as long as high humidity is provided by spraying or any other mean. It will hardly flower in a house but can make a nice ornamental plant. Keep above 10 C (50 F).

Our plants are much like the ones in the pictures. We will uproot them and ship them without soil. Do not worry: Vanilla is a climbing orchid that can stay its whole life without soil !
