Esta es nuestra selección de plantas que pueden soportar algo de frío. Algunas sólo resistirán un clima frío y un poco de escarcha, pero otras aguantarán fuertes heladas en climas más fríos. Todas son muy diferentes, pero merecen ser probadas, porque todas estas plantas de aspecto tropical tienen requisitos no tropicales. Seguramente prosperarán al aire libre en climas mediterráneos costeros, o en un invernadero mínimamente climatizado donde no se cree escarcha.

Japanese red mutant with pink flowers
This living-stone plant is a living myth, as it was considered extinct until about 2014, when it was rediscovered in the wild in S of Klipplaat, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Small tree from arid areas in N. Chile, S. Peru and N. Argentina, with feathery "Mimosa leaves". The beans are used in a way similar to carobs, to make a sweet flour that can be added to desserts, pastries, soups and even ice-cream. Just like for carobs, the dried pods can be eaten raw as a snack.

Widespread Spanish cultivar of Almond, with superior frost-resistance. It was selected in a cold area by Zaragoza by the priest who wanted to find an almond tree able to grow well in the area. Desmayo means Fainting and this is because the branches of the tree are exceptionally weeping, a bit like a willow. This doubtlessly helped the tree to resist frost.
Saturn peaches are smaller and flatter than a regular peach. Their skin is yellow and red, and they are usually less fuzzy than ordinary peaches. Their flesh is also a lot firmer, sweeter and more fragrant than a regular peach. The inside of the peach is pale in appearance.
